In this video I will highlight some of the major challenges that confront the South African school system. It is common knowledge that the country performs poorly in international tests such as TIMMS. Although there is a multiplicity of factors that contribute to this state of affairs, I will focus on the role of leadership in schools to address the challenges. Research in top performing schools in challenging contexts indicate that effective leadership is a key factor to put the country on the road of education excellence. I will highlight inspiring evidence that positive school leadership can change schools for the better.Editors:
